TOI ATUTAHI
is a Tūwharetoa-centred community arts initiative based in Tokaanu. We believe creativity has an important role to play in the life of our communities — bringing people together, creating opportunities, sharing knowledge and giving new ideas the space to grow.
Our work is grounded locally and regionally, supporting artists, rangatahi, whānau and communities through creative projects, wānanga, workshops, development opportunities and collaborations. We are interested in creativity in its broadest sense. From visual and performing arts to design, architecture, music, storytelling, digital practice and new forms of creative expression, TOI ATUTAHI creates space for people to explore ideas and make things happen.
OUR NAME
Atutahi is home.TOI ATUTAHI takes its name from Atutahi Street in Tokaanu — a place our whānau has called home across generations.
The name connects us to where we come from while looking towards what comes next.
It reflects a generational shift: new leadership, new ideas and new possibilities growing from a place that has shaped us.
TOI ATUTAHI is not about one person or one artform. It is about creating something that can grow with our community and be carried forward by future generations.

The whenua, people, histories and relationships of this region provide the foundation from which our work grows.
Being grounded here does not limit where our work can go. We want ideas and relationships developed through TOI ATUTAHI to connect across Aotearoa and, where appropriate, internationally.
We begin at home and build outward.
OUR KAUPAPA
Our kaupapa is simple: to create opportunities for creativity to flourish within our communities.
We want to make it easier for people to participate, experiment, develop ideas and connect with others through creative practice.
That means supporting both professional artistic practice and community creativity.
Sometimes the outcome might be a performance or exhibition. At other times it might be a wānanga, workshop, residency, conversation, public artwork, creative development or simply the opportunity for people to come together and make something.
The process matters as much as the outcome.
